My mom called me a couple weeks ago to have me check out a website. She knows how much I love finding new recipes, and proud I am of being and Iowan/love everything Iowa.
Sounds right up my alley.
I immediately started browsing...then planning a weekly menu from the recipes I found.
First up on the list: Pot Sticker Burgers with Spicy Asian Slaw
I made a couple small changes due to items I had on hand.
Yields: 4 burgers
Ingredients:
Pot Sticker Burgers
1 package ground turkey breast (about 1.2lbs)
1 egg
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 small red onion, diced (a couple tablespoons worth)
1 clove garlic, microplaned or finely minced
1/2" knob fresh ginger, microplaned or finely minced
1 1/2 cups coleslaw mix, roughly chopped
Non-stick spray
Spicy Asian Slaw:
3 Tablespoons soy sauce
3 Tablespoons rice vinegar
1 Tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your taste)
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ginger powder (I used fresh, microplaned ginger since I had it on hand)
A couple tablespoons red onion, diced
4 cups coleslaw mix
Directions:
For the burgers: Mix all burger ingredients, then form 4 equal patties. Spray each side with non-stick spray and grill 4-5 minutes per side, or until no longer pink in the middle.
For the slaw: Mix ingredients from soy sauce through red onion in a bowl. Add coleslaw mix and toss to combine. Let sit in fridge for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Top grilled burgers with slaw. You can serve bunless (like Iowa Girl Eats) or on a bun like I did.
These burgers were seriously delicious. I'll admit I was worried at first - I haven't had much luck with Asian inspired recipes in the past. The flavors were complex and interesting, and it took every ounce of willpower I could muster to save the other burgers for lunch the next day.
My picture does this no justice! Seriously, try these burgers!
